support and information services
Support
ARAFMI reaches out with friendship and understanding to all whose lives are touched by mental illness. Our aim is to maintain and improve existing levels of support and crisis resolution to all relatives and friends of people with a mental illness, and provide access to support services and information to:
- Families
- Carers in rural NSW
- Carers of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent
- Carers from non-English speaking backgrounds
- Young people, especially siblings and children of the mentally ill.
Support Groups
Small, mutual support groups meet regularly in both city and country regions so relatives and friends can share experiences and information with others who understand just what their lives are like. Carers are emotionally supported, encouraged and offered new ways of coping. In addition special meetings are often held on topics of interest and guest speakers are invited.
