My eldest daughter has an eating disorder, apparently BN. She has just self harmed, three days ago.

I have found this website a wealth of information, thank God, but I have some wierd questions in relation to her privacy I was hoping I could get some opinions on.

The first being, should I let her shower with the door closed without me in the bathroom?

The second is, was I wrong to take the model pics from glamour magazines off her bedroom walls?

Ta Muchly.

Jess's Mum,

I have a friend who is a carer of someone with an eating disorder.

He said that when his daughter was unwell she was very fragile and yet very prickly at the same time; trying to make her do things or force her not to do things just because they were right provoked conflict and resistance and ultimately this didn't help anyone.

He said that family therapy that helped the child and the people around her to better deal with both the illness and each other was beneficial in his case.

The 'Butterfly Foundation' provides specific advice to people effected by eating disorders; you may be able to get some more specific information from their website:
