Suicide Prevention Australia is seeking persons with a lived experience of suicide to participate in their new Lived Experience Policy Advisory Committee. The committee is intended to facilitate the active and effective participation of people with lived experience of suicide in developing policy advice and advocacy. Details regarding selection criteria and the application process, as well as more information about the committee, can be found in the attached file.

My heart goes out to all these people that have thoughts of suicide. I wish everyone would understand the difficulty of such an act. I want everyone to know that lives are lives and there is always hope in life. We need to help all those in need.

I lost my beautiful 24 year old son to suicide in january 2011. He had never left home. He was unwell for 5 years before finally giving up hope and taking his own life. I feel I have a lot to contribute because I was disempowered in his choices of medical protocols (he was legally an adult) despite his deteriorating mental and physical condition. In many ways I feel I watched my son die not knowing what to do to change the circumstances.
I am very keen to contribute to a mental health system/policies that enable young people to get the right kind of holistic assistance.
