SANE Australia Survey: Working life and mental illness

With about 45 per cent of Australians experiencing a mental illness in their lifetime, there is little doubt that we all will be affected – directly or indirectly – by a mental health problem, while at work.

SANE Australia, the national mental health charity, wants to hear about the experiences of people with mental illness, and carers, who are in work. www.sane.org

The national online survey on working life and mental illness closes in a week - and SANE encourages everyone who has worked while managing a mental illness, or caring for someone, to visit sane.org and participate.

Previous research by SANE has identified that a lack of suitable part-time and flexible work for people with a mental illness was the primary barrier to getting back to work.

The most important factor identified in successful employment was a supportive employer, especially in relation to flexible working arrangements.

All respondents remain anonymous.

SANE Australia made a lot of charitable events and helped thousands of people, the most important thing is to let other people know that their help is needed because there are a lot of people out there that don`t have sufficient money for medical treatments. I decided with my wife to give my car to a car donation program after we saw an interview at the TV organized by Sane Australia, it is not a big deal for us to give our old car to charity but I am sure that we will make someone happy.
