MHCN Carer Community Connections aims to connect carers with relevant community based services that can provide much needed support for them in caring for their loved ones.
The philosophy behind MHCN Carer Connections is that we strongly believe in the importance of our carers developing good community supports and networks to help them in their caring role. MHCN also believes that by developing these strong community connections, carers can lessen the degree of social exclusion and isolation that is so often experienced.
MHCN’s Carer Connections Line employ a team of fully trained, experienced and helpful telephone operators who will listen to carer’s needs and provide referrals to many relevant service providers and organisations across NSW who can meet those needs.
Our team will empathetically engage with carers and listen to their story in order to connect the right service with the right carer.
The core issues identified are then reported to the Mental Health Commission of NSW and to other bodies to help improve the quality of those services and their relevance to Carer needs.
In addition to this, MHCN Carer Connections will also address the issues experienced by mental health carers in their caring role through an enhanced capacity to;
- Refer carers to counselling services;
- Record feedback on services received; and,
- Record issues experienced by carers and their loved ones (including gaps in services) and regularly provide a report to the NSW Mental Health Commission of NSW about these.
